The #sleepmaxxing trend, fueled by platforms like TikTok, has raised awareness about maximizing sleep quality through lifestyle changes and cutting-edge tools. However, an intense focus on “perfect sleep” can elevate adrenaline levels and spark anxiety, leading to sleep disruptions. At Platt Wellness, we understand how these factors can create a cycle of anxiety, worsened by what experts call “orthosomnia”—the obsessive pursuit of flawless sleep based on tracking data. Unfortunately, for many, monitoring every detail of their sleep can become a source of stress, especially when they interpret low scores as potential health risks.
Understanding the Role of Adrenaline in Sleep Disruption
Insomnia—difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep—is a significant issue. According to the CDC, adults need at least 7 hours of sleep nightly for optimal health, yet around 30% of the population experiences sleep disruptions. Stress, physical discomfort, and hormonal imbalances are often the root causes, but excess adrenaline is the primary culprit. In his groundbreaking work, Adrenaline Dominance, A Revolutionary Approach to Wellness, Dr. Michael E. Platt reveals that adrenaline surges frequently wake individuals in the middle of the night, particularly between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m.
This “adrenaline dominance” often begins with imbalanced glucose levels, which trigger adrenaline to raise insulin. Without sufficient ketones for brain fuel, the body continues this adrenaline-driven cycle, which can lead to heart palpitations, headaches, high blood pressure, and—ultimately—poor sleep.
Dr. Platt’s Proven Protocol to Overcome Adrenaline Dominance
Based on decades of experience, Dr. Platt has developed a unique protocol to manage adrenaline naturally, which can restore restful sleep at any age.
- Low-Glycemic Diet: Stabilizing blood sugar is essential. Our adrenaline dominance shop supports free guides, diet plans and guides to support low glycemic intake to prevent adrenaline surges.
- MCT Oil: MCTs from coconut oil convert to ketones, an alternative brain fuel. When adrenaline spikes insulin, ketones can support brain function without triggering further adrenaline surges.
- 5% Progesterone Cream: This natural adrenaline blocker can help prevent night-time surges, allowing for deeper, uninterrupted sleep.
Additional Tips for Better Sleep
In addition to these strategies, Platt Wellness recommends magnesium and melatonin supplementation, screen-free time before bed, reduce liquids two hours before sleep, and meditation to support relaxation and reduce stress-related adrenaline spikes.
Adrenaline dominance doesn’t have to control your nights. By addressing the root causes with natural interventions, you can break free from the vicious cycle of anxiety-driven wakefulness and enjoy consistent, rejuvenating sleep.
Dr. Michael E. Platt’s award-winning book, Adrenaline Dominance, has empowered countless readers to regain control over their health through managing adrenaline naturally. Learn more about how his protocol can help you achieve better sleep and wellness.
