Common misdiagnosis between Adrenal Fatigue and Adrenal Dominance

June 8th, 2019|Categories: Uncategorized, Books and Resources|Tags: |

Adrenal fatigue is a diagnosis used mostly in alternative medicine, usually among naturopathic physicians. The diagnosis is based on the theory that the adrenal gland, if underfunctioning, can fail to produce sufficient quantities of cortisol. Treatment often involves prescribing cortisol in addition to addressing diet, timing of eating, and amount of rest. I have two concerns about this diagnosis and its treatment. First, adrenal fatigue may actually be adrenaline dominance, a condition of adrenal overfunctioning rather than underfunctioning. Second, prescribing cortisol for a condition possibly already associated with a high cortisol level may have unintended consequences. Cortisol, if given [...]

Hormone Therapy for Men

In some ways, hormone replacement in men is more important than it is for women. The most important hormone to replace in men is testosterone. It usually peaks around the age of 20, and then starts to decline yearly. Around the ages of 50 to 60 it has often decreased to a level where symptoms become noticeable. The classic changes that occur most often relate to a decrease in libido (loss of interest in sex) and erectile dysfunction. However, there are other aspects to testosterone replacement that men should be aware of. For example, almost 100% of men that [...]

You Don’t Have to Suffer with Postpartum

May 7th, 2019|Categories: Platt Wellness|Tags: |

When I first started to write this book, the headlines were filled with news of the trial of Andrea Yates, the woman who struggled with postpartum depression and eventually drowned her five children. Although I think Yates’ problems went well beyond postpartum depression, it was a major factor in her breakdown. This is a very real condition that causes untold misery to new mothers. Fortunately, it is easy to treat. Susan B. found a solution to her postpartum depression by balancing her hormones. I hope her experience will be instructive to other mothers, particularly breastfeeding mothers, who can avoid [...]

Treating the Cause of Incontinence

April 18th, 2019|Categories: Hormonal Balance and Wellness, Platt Wellness|

It never ceases to amaze me that our medical system absolutely refuses to acknowledge that the most logical approach to treating a problem is to treat the cause of the problem. They have been promoting the use of using botulinum toxin ( Botox) to treat migraines, and now they are using it to treat women who have a problem with urinary urgency - i.e. those women who when they have to go, they have to go. Interestingly, both urgency, commonly referred to as an over-active bladder, and migraine headaches, often have the same cause. Readers of my blogs already [...]

Remarkable Benefits of Progesterone Cream for Men, Women & Babies

April 9th, 2019|Categories: Hormonal Balance and Wellness, Men and Hormone Therapy, Excessive Adrenaline, Wellness, Platt Wellness|

Progesterone is truly a universal hormone because it provides benefits to people of both sexes and all ages. It has the remarkable ability to block the three most toxic hormones in the body, namely estradiol, insulin, and adrenaline.  Because of this unique ability, it can transform various health clinics into wellness centers. Because it can help to treat the underlying cause of illness – a concept that is not taught in medical school – people can achieve the dual benefit of getting rid of a condition felt to be incurable, and also getting off of medications that will no [...]

Hormones – Losing Weight – Part II

April 2nd, 2019|Categories: Hormonal Balance and Wellness, Platt Wellness|

If you read my January Blog "Why Can't I Lose Weight" this post is helpful to narrow in on the important role that hormones contribute to weight gain. Hormones control every system in the body, and they certainly have a major influence on how we handle weight. By now you are familiar with perhaps the number one cause of excess weight – namely, excess adrenaline. And, as a reminder, this is the fat that comes on while you are sleeping, or trying to. I am going to talk about another hormonal issue leading to weight gain which is estrogen. [...]

Postpartum depression, the New Drug Allopregnaneolone

March 21st, 2019|Categories: Hormonal Balance and Wellness, Platt Wellness|

There is concern, nowadays, in congress about the high cost of medications. On March 19, the FDA approved a drug being hailed as the first to be approved for the treatment of postpartum depression (PPD). The cost for the drug alone is expected to be $20,000-$35,000, and requires the additional cost for hospitalization during its IV administration lasting 60 hours. The primary component of this drug is allopregnaneolone, which is a breakdown product of a hormone called progesterone. When women are pregnant, the placenta pours out progesterone during the second and third trimester. It is a natural antidepressant and is responsible [...]

Eliminating Migraine Headaches – A True Story of Karen H.

February 25th, 2019|Categories: Platt Wellness|Tags: |

Excerpt from my book:  The Miracle of Bio-Identical Hormones” - Chapter FIVE Karen is a fashionable woman in her 50s who came to me to solve a post-menopausal weight problem. Her medical history indicated that she’d suffered from migraine headaches all her life. She was amazed when I told her that the migraines were curable. She’d tried to get help with them, spending a considerable amount of money, but to no avail. Readers who have been tolerating migraines should learn from her example: it’s never too late to defeat an old enemy like migraines, although the earlier you address [...]

Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

January 29th, 2019|Categories: Excessive Adrenaline, Wellness, Adrenal Fatigue, Weight|

It’s that time of the year again – when we set out to lose that extra weight from the holidays and get back on track. However, simply as a change of pace, perhaps this can be the year to achieve success with a weight loss resolution. I think that part of the problem with regard to shedding pounds is that many people have to contend with two factors that provide negative reinforcement – 1) whatever they are doing is not working; or 2) that they do achieve some weight loss, but as soon as they stop what they are [...]
